The first installment in a new multi-disciplinary at Joe’s Pub part of New York City’s iconic public theater was all about the  Nuyorasian Artists — New York’s premier Asian American performers. Top notch talent from the worlds of music, comedy, concert dance, cabaret and electronica joined forces for one electrifying show.  Curated and hosted by notorious NuyorAsian comedienne/rapper Kate Siahaan-Rigg with co-host and child star-turned-Broadway actress Olivia Oguma.

The program included: Incredible singer songwriter and Koreatown soul prophet Andrew Choi aka St. Lenox, rising modern dance star from the Gibney Company Jakub Thoman, violinist and songwriter Adriana Mateo, theater artist and activist Sarah Shin, percussion god and band leader Brandon Ilaw, downtown New York club impresario and celebrated two spirited chanteuse Raven-O, and the ground breaking rock spoken word electric violin killer duo Slanty Eyed Mama. (hyperlink all the artists to their bio on the show page)

disOrientalism OPEN MIC:

A full on art party hosted by Kate Rigg and featuring some of New York’s most talented Asian American Performers. Spoken word, music, comedy, improv all for free at one of NYC’s hippest clubs. Started at 730 and went until we run out of ART!! Artists were invited to perform 5-10 minute sets and a highlight of the night was when local Ramen Noodle Bar owner of Marafuku Ramen stumbled into the show, and was so impressed that he returned with enough noodles and food for everyone in the show. He happened to show up with the Rame JUST as the shw hosts were onstage dressed as a cup of instant ramen and a Sriracha bottle. The ancestors would have been proud!

During the pandemic we presented a half hour online version of disOrientalism called “A Cure for Kung Flu Killer Asian Artists Take the Stage” featuring incredible performance artist and fashion icon, Yozmit, vogue dancer and runway kween Dynasty Milan, rap legends of Chinatown Notorious MSG, two spirited chanteuse Raven O and the killer electric violin and rap duo Slanty Eyed Mama.
